Gareth Williams has unquestionably established himself as one of the country’s leading modern jazz pianists. A fiery and creative player, his remarkable talent has been seen with an impressive array of world-class artists, from Jazz/Hip Hop band “Us3” through to internationally-renowned jazz musicians such as Joe Lovano, George Coleman and Jim Mullen. Described as “one of the most agile and original jugglers of improv and adventurous composition to have appeared in the UK in recent times” multi-award winning saxophonist and composer Trish Clowes has made quite an impact in the relatively short time she has been on the UK jazz scene. Following her studies at the Royal Academy of Music, in 2008 she won the Peter Whittingham Development Award that allowed her to form her first ensemble, Tangent, followed by her eponymously named CD debut on Basho Records in 2010.

Lleisiau cyfoes: Retorica

7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Mae gwaith Robert Fokkens, Dances and Chorales ar raddfa fawr. Mae’n waith i ddeuawd feiolin ac offer electronig byw sy’n datblygu syniadau mewn perthynas â Retorica sydd wedi bod ar y gweill ers 2015 ac a ddeilliodd o astudiaeth o gerddoriaeth linnynol o bob cwr o’r byd. Fel pâr i’r gwaith hwn clywn ddarn newydd gan y gyfansoddwraig o Awstralia, Wendy Hiscocks. Cyflwyniad clyweledol yw ei gwaith newydd hi sydd wedi ei sgorio ar gyfer deuawd feiolin a seiniau wedi eu recordio.Ysbrydolwyd y gwaith gan beintiadau o flodau gan Georgia O’Keeffe, ffilmiau mud arbrofol o gychwyn yr ugeinfed ganrif a rhaglenni dogfen Prydeinig arloesol o’r 1930au. Bydd y gerddoriaeth yn priodi gyda ffilm mewn tri rhan gyda’r seiniau mewn gwrthbwynt â’r lluniau a hyn mewn proses coreograffig mewn math ar fale clyweledol. I gloi’r cyngerdd mae Retorica yn perfformio Spielend gan John McCabe, gwaith a ysgrifenwyd ar gyfer Philippa Mo ac sy’n ymwneud â ‘chwarae’ yn ystyr ehangaf y term.
