Walton: Belshazzar’s Feast and Rachmaninov Symphony no. 2
28/04/2016, 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Brass bands, chorus, organ and full orchestra, rhythms and colours of the Jazz Age, combined with choral tradition! Walton’s dramatic talents produced one of the pinnacles of twentieth-century choral repertoire in Belshazzar’s Feast. There is an epic grandeur to Rachmaninov’s second symphony which almost overwhelms the listener. The sweeping melodies – Rachmaninov called these his ‘big tunes’ – come thick and fast.
