Peter Maxwell Davies, Eight Songs for a Mad King

Peter Maxwell Davies’s Eight Songs for a Mad King will be introduced by Dr Nicholas Jones (Cardiff University) and Prof Richard McGregor (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland).

The School of Music is also hosting a study day on the music and life of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies on Saturday 25 April 2020. Davies (1934–2016) was one of the leading international composers of the post-war period as well as one of the most productive. This study day will illuminate the composer’s practices and approaches and reflect on Davies’s wider contributions to the world of music, culture and society. The event will coincide with the publication of a major new book on Davies’s music, co-authored by Nicholas Jones and Richard McGregor.
