FROM ROME TO RIO

Cardiff University Chamber Choir

Conductor – Peter Leech

Cardiff University Concert Hall

Friday,  December 3,  7.00 p.m.

Cardiff University Chamber Choir present another ground-breaking, innovative programme of choral music, this time juxtaposing the works of two neglected eighteenth-century contemporaries from opposite sides of the Atlantic: José Mauricio Nunes Garcia, Afro-Brazilian chapel master of Rio de Janeiro Cathedral, and Maria Rosa Coccia, who became a maestra di cappella of Rome and member of the Congregazione di Santa Cecilia at the age of just 15. Join us for another rare programme of first modern performances in Wales of sublime sacred music not heard since the late 1700s.

Programme to include:

Maria Rosa Coccia (1759-1833): Magnificat & motets

José Mauricio Nunes Garcia (1767-1830): Miserere in F, Magnificat in D & motets

with additional choral works by Olivia Sparkhall, Imogen Holst and Fanny Hensel
