Cardiff University School Of Music presents Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra
Dele Sosimi returns to Cardiff for the third year running with his Afrobeat Orchestra to deliver an afrobeat masterclass/workshop (1pm – 3pm open to the public ) and evening gig.
Students in Cardiff University School of Music once again have demanded Dele’s return, this time around featuring a new DSAO member, School of Music graduate Oliver McLoughlin, who originally met Dele Sosimi at his 1st Cardiff Afrobeat workshop. This masterclass (1pm -3pm at Clwb Ifor Bach) is free and open to the public.
Nigeria’s iconic popular #afrobeat is music which emerged as a hard-hitting music of resistance and social commentary. Pigin English vocals soar over contemporary R&B grooves, Dele’s soulful keyboards interlocking with funk guitar, and a barrage of percussion and horn arrangements. Beyond its political message, Dele’s brand of afrobeat is irresistible dance music that will sound familiar to first-time audiences and sublime to die-hard fans featuring some of London’s finest jazz musicians and fiercest percussionist. Dele is recognised as the UK ambassador of the form, taking his group all over Europe, India, Bangladesh and South Korea so far. His Afrobeat Vibration 4 hour marathon live sets in London are legendary and now in its 9th year.
